Captain America: Brave New World Review/Results
Kellerman’s Spoiler-Free Review:
Captain America: Brave New World was… weird.
On the one hand, it does have some… what I consider to be glaring plot holes, and tonally it’s one of the most uneven movies I’ve ever seen. Not to mention the fact that its touchstone movies, the most important MCU movies for you to have seen before this movie are The Incredible Hulk, Captain America: Civil War, and The Eternals.
On the other hand though, I think it deserves a lot of credit for feeling more like it’s part of the larger story of the MCU, which other recent films haven’t.
It plants a number of seeds for future stories that I’m excited about.
Anthony Mackie totally holds the movie down in my opinion, and does a great job of playing a less perfect Captain America. Which is exemplified right off that bat by him drinking and using profanity, and in the first fight he’s given the opportunity to say “I can do this all day” like Steve Rogers would… but instead he says “I’ve got shit to do today.” Which I think is a very 2025 attitude.
I like the infusion of technology in Cap’s suit also, it felt fresh to me in comparison to the stiff, old-fashioned Steve Rogers Captain America.
My biggest critique is probably that the fight scenes, while cool and at times beautiful… lacked complexity. And I know it’s silly to expect complexity from a fight scene but I would argue that most of the Marvel movies do a good job of having the good guy ALMOST win a number of times before actually winning. And that didn’t really happen at any point during this movie.
Ok… but I have an alternate review that I’d like to share because I feel like nobody is talking about this…
This could have been… a GREAT Hulk movie. It has all the DNA of a Hulk movie.
Both villains are classic Hulk comic book villains, the Leader and the Red Hulk. General Ross’ relationship with his daughter Betty (who is Bruce Banner’s love) is a huge part of this. Gamma radiation is a major plot device. If you replaced Captain America with Bruce Banner… and had him doing his best not to Hulk out while investigating this international crime… and then being forced to Hulk out to defeat Red Hulk… That’s… what the movie should have been.
All things considered… I give it 8 Mackies.

Here are just some thoughts I had that I couldn’t incorporate in my spoiler-free review. DO NOT READ if you haven’t seen the movie yet!
The Monkey
The Guys’ Predictions:
Popcorn Bucket Boneability
Despite it’s lusty eyes and come-hither smile… this monkey popcorn bucket is not anatomically correct, and therefor has no place insert anything (other than popcorn into the drum). The monkey doesn’t detach and there is very little space between the monkey and the drum.
However… the drumming action of the arms could potentially be used as some sort of foreplay perhaps and the drum sticks, along with the monkey’s parted lips and the top of its head could potentially be used to please a woman. And so I give this terrifying popcorn bucket…
1 butter pump.
